Janie Richardson Meyer, of Charleston, joined her family in heaven on Thursday, July 24, 2014 with her loving friends and sister at her side.
Janie worked for various social service agencies including the Red Cross in West Virginia, the Kidney Foundation and Goodwill.
She also worked at Bloomingdale's in New York City and in Stamford, Conn., where she met her future husband, the late, Paul Meyer.
Janie loved painting and singing with the Holy Fish, a praise band at Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She played several musical instruments in the band at Stonewall Jackson High School and performed in several plays while at Morris Harvey College. Janie earned a black belt in Karate and loved teaching the sport to young students.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Everett "Bud" and Jeannette Richardson; her aunt and uncle, LaRue and Gene Williams.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Danny Lorentz; dear friends, Jana Rowley Olah, Toni and Rand Brown; her two dogs and constant companions, Toots and Sandy.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 28 at Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist Church, Charleston with Dr. Frank T. Shomo, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 27 at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston.
