Prep football practice starts up today

West Virginia teams take the first step toward their high school football seasons today when practice begins around the state.

The first date for wearing pads without live contact is Friday. The first allowed date for live contact is Aug. 12, and the first scheduled participation in a scrimmage game or grid-o-rama is Aug. 16.

The regular season kicks off the weekend of Aug. 28-30. The first round of playoffs is set for Nov. 14-15.

Preseason practice also begins today for prep soccer, cross country, golf and cheerleading.
