Richard John Spainhour, 73, of Hurricane, went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 1, 2014, at CAMC Teays Valley.
Born May 31, 1941, in Charleston, Richard was a son of the late Sylvian and Maxine Spainhour.
Richard was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of The Catholic Church of the Ascension, where he loved to sing in the choir. He also loved to draw and to hunt. Richard was employed over 30 years with Kanawha County EMS, retiring in 2008. He also served his country in the United States Navy.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Alice Spainhour; children, Lisa D'Alessio (Rossana) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Richard Allen Spainhour (Sheri) of Fairlawn, Ohio; sister, Connie Jones of Marmet; brother, Patrick "Greg" Spainhour of Dunbar; and grandchildren, Gabriel Goudy, Emily Goudy, Zachary Spainhour, Dalton Goudy and James Spainhour.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at The Catholic Church of the Ascension, 905 Hickory Mill Road, Hurricane, with Father Harry Cramer officiating.
