Police looking for suspect in Elkview bank robbery
Police are looking for a man who robbed a bank in Elkview this afternoon.
The man brought out a black pistol and demanded money from a teller at the Chase Bank on Railroad Avenue, according to a release from Kanawha Sheriff’s Spokesman Cpl. Brian Humphreys.
No customers were in the bank at the time, but several employees were working.
The suspect fled in a newer-model gold or beige vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu with a spoiler on the back, according to Kanawha Sheriff’s Capt. Sean Crosier.
The suspect was reportedly wearing a mask, a navy blue shirt and blue jeans. He was described as a white male, between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall.
Police wouldn’t say how much money was stolen.
Crosier said Deputy S.A. Cowan, was nearby when dispatchers received the call about the robbery around 1:30 p.m.
“He was on the scene 37 seconds later,” Crosier said.
A getaway driver may have been involved.
“We did a great job coordinating our response but they were able to slip through our fingers,” Crosier said. “On the other hand, we got a good description of the vehicle. We’re still out there looking.”
About nine officers were on scene Thursday afternoon. Crosier said they were searching the area, reviewing surveillance footage, speaking with witnesses and looking for any physical evidence.
