CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston Police arrested three people late Thursday in connection with a prostitution sting on Charleston’s West Side.
Sgt. Bobby Eggleton, of the Charleston Police Department’s Special Enforcement Division, said the sting was part of a crackdown on prostitution ordered by Police Chief Brent Webster. After targeting suspected prostitutes, police will next go after those trying to pay for sex, Eggleton said.
Bryan April Williams, 27, of Charleston; Nichole Young, 30, of Charleston; and M.L. Kennedy, 29, of Clendenin were arrested Thursday and face charges in Municipal Court.
On Friday, the department also conducted a citywide warrants sweep. The Charleston Police Warrants Division and Community Services Division ran the sweep from about 6 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Those served include:
n Nyosha White, 21: domestic battery, seatbelt violation
n Jennifer Spencer-Him, 35: shoplifting, miscellaneous traffic offenses
n James Stokes, 65: driving on a revoked operator’s for DUI
n Clifford Gibson, 51: forgery/uttering
n Jason Morris, 39: battery
n Shanton Penn, 22: DUI, revoked operator’s for DUI, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a controlled substance, simple possession of marijuana
n Augusta Beatrice, 38: truancy, traffic offenses
n Emmanuel Evans, 26: burglary, assault in the commission of a felony
n Theophilus Coats, 55: domestic battery
n Charles Moore, 36: two counts of domestic battery
n Robert Fuentes, 44, shoplifting second offense, receiving stolen property, controlled substance possession
