Roundup: Shepherd picked to repeat in MEC football
Shepherd has been selected to repeat as Mountain East Conference football champions in a poll released Friday by the league’s coaches.
The Rams received seven first-place ballots for 95 points. Concord was picked second with three first-place votes and 91 points. Charleston was picked third with one first-place vote and received 84 points.
Glenville State placed fourth (67), followed by West Virginia Wesleyan (60) and Urbana (58). Notre Dame and West Liberty were predicted to finish in a tie for seventh with 44 points, while Fairmont State (33), Virginia-Wise (15) and West Virginia State (14) rounded out the poll.
WVU SPORTS: The West Virginia University volleyball team has been picked to finish seventh in the Big 12 Conference preseason poll. Defending champion Texas was selected to win the conference for the fourth season in a row with eight first-place votes. Kansas was selected second, receiving one first-place vote.
PREP GOLF: Roane County’s Cam Moore won the Mingo Bottom Golf Club Invitational Friday in Elizabeth after playing one playoff hole against St. Joseph’s Josef Dransfeld. The two finished at 1-over-par 72 in regulation. Cam’s brother, Cole Moore, took third place. Roane County topped the team scoring with 307. Ritchie County came in second place with a 338 total.
