KCPL wants creative young minds for its Reel Teens Book Trailer contest

Daniel Calwell is the titular superhero in a team entry for Dav Pilkey’s “Captain Underpants” series submitted for the previous Reel Teens contest.

Love books? Love filmmaking? Then combine your two passions for the Kanawha County Public Library’s Reel Teens Book Trailer Contest!

Teens in grades 7-12 are eligible for the competition, in which they’ll write and film a trailer for a favorite book. Any form of filmmaking (live-action, animation, puppetry, etc.) is allowed.

Entries must be PG and no more than four minutes long. Video files must be smaller than 20GB and in a file format supported by YouTube.

You can post your entry on a YouTube account and email the link to or submit a nonreturnable DVD to any KCPL location. Individual and group entries are allowed. Entries, and the required accompanying release form, must be received by close of business on Aug. 18.

All entries will then be posted on the KCPL YouTube channel (KanawhaLibrary), and links will be posted daily on the library’s Facebook page for voting from Aug. 25-Sept. 8. Facebook likes and YouTube thumbs-ups will be counted as votes. Winners will be announced Sept. 12.

Every entry receives a prize, provided by The Friends of The Library Foundation of Kanawha County. Cash prizes for the top three are $100 for first, $50 for second and $25 for third.
