Grady Hicks, 86, of Madison, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014 at Boone Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
He was born March 8, 1928 and was a son of the late Ernest and Merele (Price) Hicks. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Dolly Mae Hicks; six sisters, Kathleen Miller, Corina Dolin, Reba Redd, Oreda Ferrell, Betty McCormick and Kay Gillispie; and two grandchildren, Mark Hicks and Chelsea Gillenwater.
Grady worked on the railroad for 10 years, in the coal mines for 10 years and retired from Consolidated Gas Company after 35 years of service. He was of the Apostolic Pentecostal faith, was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed 'coon hunting and field trial racing.
He is survived by 10 children, Roger and his wife, Vivian, of Alum Creek, Sue and her husband, Lester, of Uneeda, Patsy and her husband, Charles, of Ottawa, Donnie and his wife, Loraine, of Price Hill, Terry and his companion, Angie, of Lick Creek, Dottie and her husband, Lester, of Lick Creek, Greg of Price Hill, Danny and his wife, Sherry, of Uneeda, Jackie of Price Hill and Tammy and her husband, Terry, of Foster; his brother, Jesse Hicks; 29 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Boone Memorial Hospital staff for all they did for our dad. We truly appreciate everything they did.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Handley Funeral Home, Danville, with Pastor Johnny W. Meade and the Rev. Jeremy D. Brown officiating. He will be laid to rest in Danville Memorial Park immediately following the service.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
