Charleston Catholic scored two first-half goals and held off visiting Linsly 3-1 in girls soccer Saturday afternoon at Trace Fork Field.
Payton Mullen scored once and assisted on a goal by Caroline Dundervill to give the Irish an early 2-0 lead. Linsly’s Morgan Brunner scored in the second half before Catholic’s Sophia Bumgarner found the back of the net to seal the victory.
Irish keeper Emily Holmes recorded four saves.
St. Albans 5, Riverside 0: Hannah Myers netted four goals as St. Albans shut out visiting Riverside. Korey Beth Frame also scored, Kelsey Thompson added two assists and keeper Megan Russell picked up four saves and recorded an assist for the Red Dragons.
Winfield 1, Wheeling Park 1: Winfield held a 1-0 lead at halftime, but visiting Wheeling Park rallied in the second half to force a tie. Katie Bryant scored for the Generals, who recorded 19 shots. The Patriots were led by Lizzy Sellers’ goal and Nicole Conway’s 18 saves.
Boyd County 4, Hurricane 2: Reid Rousey booted home two goals as visiting Boyd County, Ky. took a 4-0 lead at half and cruised to a win. Wyatt Lewis and Jordan Smith added a goal each for Boyd County. Loran Meadows had both goals for Hurricane (0-1).
Capital 5, Point 2: Tyler Shaffer recorded a hat trick as host Capital cruised to a season-opening win. Keenan Barbavette pitched in with two goals for the Cougars. Dylan Lunsford and Austin Nott each scored once for Point Pleasant.
Sissonville 13, Mingo Central 1: Sam Gary recorded a hat trick and an assist as Sissonville rolled to a road win.
Chase McVey scored twice and assisted on three goals and Caleb Calhoun and Cameron Humphreys each scored twice for the Indians. Anthony Dotson scored for the Miners.

MARSHALL VOLLEYBALL: The Marshall volleyball team’s annual Green and White scrimmage is set for 6 p.m. today at the Cam Henderson Center. This will be the Herd’s final preseason scrimmage before starting the regular season Friday with the Thunder Invitational, where Marshall will host Eastern Michigan, Illinois-Chicago and Virginia.
