Three state fire departments receive federal grants

CHARLESTON, W.Va. ­-- Three West Virginia volunteer fire departments have been awarded federal funding for equipment and other purchases.

U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller announced the grants Wednesday from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The grants include nearly $712,000 to the Sherrard Volunteer Fire Department in Marshall County and more than $70,000 apiece to fire departments in the Putnam County community of Buffalo and the Roane County community of Walton.
