Power season ends with shutout loss

Asheville held West Virginia to just three hits as the Tourists defeated the Power 5-0 in the South Atlantic League regular-season finale Monday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park.

The loss gives the Power a 54-81 overall record for the season, including a 34-33 mark in the second half, good for fourth place in the SAL’s seven-team Northern Division.

The Tourists jumped on the board first with two runs in the third on RBI singles from Correlle Prime and Jose Briceno and tacked on insurance runs in the seventh, when Jordan Patterson drove in Ryan McMahon with a single, and the ninth on another RBI single from Prime.

Power reliever Dovydas Neverauskas (6-12) was charged with the loss, allowing two runs on four hits in two innings. Asheville’s Johendi Jiminian (14-6) earned the win, giving up just one hit and striking out five in three innings of scoreless relief, and Alex Balog tallied his first save.

West Virginia’s Austin Meadows extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double to finish the season.

West Virginia opens the 2015 season at Appalachian Power Park, hosting the Savannah Sand Gnats on April 9.
