There are long-running musical organizations, and then there’s the U.S. Marine Band. Established in July 1798, it’s the oldest continuously active professional musical organization in the country, and it’s coming to town Wednesday. In a free 7:30 p.m. concert at the Municipal Auditorium, “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band, led by director Lt. Col. Jason K. Fettig, will perform a program that includes works by John Philip Sousa, Aaron Copland and John Williams, as well as a Salute to the Armed Forces and solos by principal alto saxophonist Master Sgt. Steve Longoria (Jimmy Dorsey’s “Oodles of Noodles”) and mezzo-soprano Gunnery Sgt. Sara Dell’Omo (“The Harold Arlen Songbook”). The U.S. Marine Band has performed at every presidential inauguration since Thomas Jefferson’s in 1801, which is how it earned its moniker. Advance reservations, limited to four tickets, can be made at www.marchingdragons.com or by calling 304-236-4692.
