Police are still searching for two men who allegedly broke into the Gold Dome Bar in Kanawha City earlier this week, but have identified one of them using facial recognition technology.
On Wednesday, a warrant was issued for the arrest of James Johnson, 23, who lives on Glenwood Avenue in Charleston.
Johnson and another man allegedly stole several thousand dollars from the bar’s lottery machines, cash register and safe early Sunday morning, according to Charleston Police Lt. Steve Cooper.
“We have reason to believe [Johnson] is trying to elude police,” Cooper said Wednesday.
Police used still images from video surveillance taken at the Gold Dome, which was then placed into a database that matched Johnson’s image to a past mugshot from the South Central Regional Jail. People close to Johnson confirmed it was him, Cooper said.
Johnson has an arrest history, according to Cooper.
Another suspect has not yet been identified by police.
