Roundup: Scott wins Cardinal Conference golf title

John Price shot an 85 to help Scott win the Cardinal Conference golf tournament with a team score of 366 Wednesday at Twisted Gun Golf Course in Wharncliffe.

Chapmanville placed second with a 378, followed by Mingo Central (394), Herbert Hoover (408) and Wayne (410).

Price’s 85 landed him on the All-Cardinal Conference first team along with Chapmanville’s Jake Workman and Austin Bledsoe, Mingo Central’s Garrett Bevins and Alex Warden, Poca’s David Scraggs, Wayne’s Justin Crockett and Herbert Hoover’s Bradley Coleman.

WVGA SENIORS: Harold Payne carded an even-par 70 to take the senior division and the low round of the day Wednesday as the West Virginia Golf Association’s Senior Series continued at the Lewisburg Elks Country Club.

Payne beat out Jim Grimmett, who finished second with a 4-over 74, and Ardie Jenkins (78). In the silver division, Jerry Groves and Ed McCall both fired rounds of 1-over 71 to place first and second, respectively. Roy Hammond rounded out the top three with a 73.

In the gold division, Bob White took home top honors with a 2-over 72, finishing ahead of Roger Keaton and Scott Bailey, who each carded a 76.

The WVGA Senior Series continues on Sept. 17-18 as it heads to Locust Hill Golf Club in Charles Town and The Woods Golf Course in Hedgesville.
