Kanawha County man allegedly has sex with dog

A Kanawha County man had sex with his dog, police said.

Johnnie Boggess, 47, of Miami in Cabin Creek, faces a charge of cruelty to animals, according to West Virginia State Police.

Sgt. Larry O’Bryan said Boggess admitted to sex with his pet beagle mix, Piglet, in his bed after another person reported it.

Boggess said he held and petted the dog after the act and said he loved the dog, O’Bryan said.

O’Bryan said there were reports that the act occurred multiple times but Boggess only confessed to once.

“He said he wished he hadn’t done it,” O’Bryan said. “He said he was drunk when he did it.”A Kanawha County Animal Control humane officer came to get the dog, O’Bryan said. O’Bryan said it was his understanding that Boggess’ girlfriend reported the crime.

O’Bryan said Boggess had posted bond.

He said the bond was for $5,000 property or 10 percent cash, so $500 would allow Boggess to post bond.

He said Boggess didn’t appear to be mentally disabled.

“He seemed cognizant,” O’Bryan said.
