Loren E. Young

Loren Edward Young, 87, of Fayetteville, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.

Born on Aug. 19, 1927 in Claremont, he was the son of the late Charles Richard and Nannie Mae Shuck Young.

Mr. Young was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the Korean War conflict. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he loved giving mints and candy to all of his church family. Mr. Young loved gardening, going to church and spending time with his family, but he especially loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Jerri Plumley Young, and 13 brothers and sisters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Ronald E. Young (Nancy) of Beckley, Loren "Mike" Young (Danita) of Fayetteville, Sherri Lucas (Doug) of Glen Daniel and Greg Young (Carrie) of Charleston; grandchildren, Jamie Young, Katlyn Young, Christie Adkins, Jamie Mink, Phillip Young, Chris Young, Dougie Lucas, Dawson Lucas, Joe Lucas, Taylor French, Stephanie Young and MacKenzie Young; 10 great-grandchildren; his church phone friend, Ella Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, beloved friends and church family.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Fayetteville, with Pastor Justin Seay officiating. Burial will follow at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Military graveside rites will be performed by American Legion Post 32 Honor Guard of Beckley.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made in his memory to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.

The family would like to thank the staff of Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, especially CCU nurses Heather and Jane, Bowers Hospice House and Dr. Richard Wisman for the wonderful care given to our father.
