Carter G. Woodson, Father of Black History, is subject of poetry

Poet Norman Jordan will present "Carter G. Woodson, Father of Black History" at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center near the New River Gorge Bridge in Lansing from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.Join park staff after hours for a dessert reception and to enjoy stories of Woodson's life from working the coal mines to teaching others in the mining town of Winona.
The presentation will follow the life of Woodson from his days as a railroad worker and coal miner to Harvard University doctorate graduate, teacher, principal and professor. Known today as the "Father of Black History," Carter G. Woodson began his career, and in an important way gained some of the inspiration for his pioneering work, in the New River Gorge coalfields.For more information, call Robin Snyder at 304-640-0724.
