Cancer charity haircuts
Thomas Health is gathering for a Pantene Beautiful Lengths ponytail-cutting event from to 6 p.m. today at the Thomas Memorial Surgery Waiting Lobby — beside Starbucks. Hair donations are made into free, real-hair wigs and are distributed for free to female cancer patients through the national network of American Cancer Society wig banks. Walk-ins are accepted. Kids to Parks Day event
The Greater Huntington Park and Recreation District is hosting an adventurous day for families in celebration of “Kids to Parks Day” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Ritter Park to test their skills on an obstacle course and play yard games. Bike appreciation day
The annual Kanawha City Bike Appreciation Day will begin at noon on Sunday at the 57th Street Kanawha City bike trailhead. The family-friendly event is free and sponsored by the Kanawha City Community Association, together with the City of Charleston Police Department and West Virginia Connecting Communities. The event will include raffles, bike and trike decorating, face painting, bike tune-ups and safety activities. A Trikes and Bikes Parade will begin at 2 p.m. and a community ride will begin at 3 p.m. on the Kanawha City Bike Route. It will continue until dusk or the last riders quit. Free bike helmets will be distributed to participants under 15 who need a helmet. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. For more information, call Roland Huson at 304-545-5287.
Trail club hike
The Kanawha Trail club will have a hike at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Charleston Tennis Club. Carpool from the parking lot at the corner of Ohio Avenue and Randolph Street, across from post office. Regroup at lower parking lot (left side) of CTC, 1600 Tennis Club Road. The hike is about 3 miles with some steep grades, footing is generally good. Shorter version is available.
