Kanawha deputies are investigating after a possible pipe bomb was found during a death investigation in Pinch.
Deputies were searching a home near Hafer Funeral Home in Pinch Thursday after an apparent suicide when they came across what they suspected to be a pipe bomb, said Sgt. Brian Humphreys, spokesman for the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. The deputies immediately stopped their search and called for the sheriff’s Bomb Squad to examine and remove the device.
Humphreys said the Bomb Squad still was at the home Thursday afternoon and that it wasn’t immediately clear if the item found was an explosive device.
He said investigators at the scene were approaching the matter with “an abundance of caution.”
Humphreys said the investigation at the home would resume once the device was removed.
Information was limited Thursday.
