State Police are investigating the death of a Lincoln County man after his body was found in his home early Monday morning.

An acquaintance found the body of Burley Kelley, 88, at about 4 a.m., in his Branchland home, said Trooper S.G. Fox, of the Hamlin detachment.

Rachael Kelley, the victim’s daughter-in-law, said in a statement that Kelley had 14 children, including two stepchildren, 41 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. She said he worked as a coal miner, a lumberjack and a construction worker, and he has worked in a Coca-Cola factory in Michigan at one point.

“He was a good friend to many and would help anyone that needed it,” she said.

Kelley lived in the 4700 block of McClellan Highway, Fox said.

“It’s a murder investigation because of the manner in which he was found deceased,” he said.

Fox said he couldn’t release yet how Kelley was killed.
