Gov. Jim Justice is sick and won’t attend Governor’s Day at the State Fair of West Virginia today, according to a news release from his office.

After he fired his chief of staff, Nick Casey, on Monday, Justice’s office scheduled a press conference for Tuesday, presumably to announce his new pick. His office then rescheduled that press conference for Wednesday.

After the Gazette-Mail and others reported his appointment of Sen. Mike Hall, R-Putnam, as his new chief of staff, Justice canceled the media availability, as well as speaking tour events for his proposed road bond referendum vote in October.

“I surely haven’t been on vacation and I never get sick,” Justice said in the release. “Therefore, I just didn’t want to be bothering the people with me not feeling well. We had some meetings and events scheduled for this week that unfortunately had to be postponed, and I hate that, but I just had to. Those things will be rescheduled.”
