State Auditor JB McCuskey will serve as U.S. Rep. Evan Jenkins’ campaign chairman in Jenkins’ run for U.S. Senate, the campaign announced today.

McCuskey, who was elected auditor last year after representing Kanawha County in the House of Delegates, said in a news release that Jenkins “is somebody that I’ve known and been friends with for 25 years ... and I know that he shares our values.” Both men are Republicans, although Jenkins was a longtime Democrat before switching parties as part of his 2014 run for Congress.

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., now holds the seat and is running for re-election. Other announced candidates include state Attorney General Patrick Morrisey and former coal miner Bo Copley, both Republicans, and Democrat Paula Jean Swearengin.
