Power outage affects nearly 5,000 in WV

Nearly 5,000 Appalachian Power customers in West Virginia are without electric after storms Sunday morning.

According to the company, the outage affected 4,921 West Virginia customers as of 5:30 p.m.

The outage was caused by downed trees and power lines and in Kanawha County is concentrated in the Elkview area, according to a Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatcher.

As of 5:30 p.m. Sunday, the outage affected 1,918 customers in Kanawha County, 532 in Cabell County and 109 in Wayne County.
