Clendenin Elementary teachers moving into portables this week

By Staff reports

When students from Clendenin Elementary School return from Spring Break in about two weeks, they’ll start classes in portables, a spokeswoman for the school district said Sunday.

The school has been sharing a building with Bridge Elementary since its own building was destroyed in the late June flood. Clendenin Elementary and Bridge Elementary will be closed Thursday and Friday as teachers move into portables, according to a message Sunday from Kanawha County Schools.

Spring break is scheduled for April 10 through 14, said Briana Warner, communications director for Kanawha County Schools.

“[Students] will be in the new portables when they get back from Spring break,” Warner said.

Portables for Herbert Hoover High School students, who have been sharing Elkview Middle School’s building with students, are slated for installation in mid-April, Warner said. After they’re installed, the county’s maintenance department will come in and install white boards and finish utility work. There’s no firm date for Hoover students to start classes in the portables, she said.
