Max Garland grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee, and graduated from Elon University with a bachelor’s degree in print journalism in May 2016. Before joining the Gazette-Mail in September 2016, he was a News21 investigative reporting fellow and an intern at the Burlington Times-News in North Carolina.
