Several Division I basketball recruits, including six bound for West Virginia and Marshall, are scheduled to compete Saturday in the Scott Brown/Little General Classic at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
The two-game event is set to tip off at 4 p.m. with a contest pitting Class AA standouts from West Virginia high schools against their Class A counterparts. (See roster, Page 2B.) One of the assistant coaches for the Class AA team is 103-year-old Lewis D’Antoni, a former state championship coach at Mullens and father of Houston Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni and Marshall coach Dan D’Antoni.
The second game, set for 6 p.m., pits the Crossroads Chevy All-Stars against the Employers Innovative Network All-Stars.
Competing for Crossroads are players like Marshall recruits Jarrod West (Notre Dame), Darius George (Robert E. Lee, Va.) and Tanner Robinette and Iran Bennett (Hargrave Military, Va.). Also on the squad are Poca’s Luke Frampton (a Davidson signee), Capital’s Leondre’ Rogers and C.J. Wilder.
On the EIN team are WVU recruits Teddy Allen (Boys Town, Neb.) and Derek Culver (Warren, Ohio). Former Ripley standout Chase Johnson joins two other Huntington Prep athletes on the squad in Chris Smith and Christian Alley. Tamon Scruggs of South Charleston is also on the EIN roster.
A slam dunk contest and 3-point shootout will be staged between the games.
Admission is $8 for general admission for the two games or $10 for seats in the risers.
