Roundup: MSAC Grid-o-rama sets dates, times

Defending Mountain State Athletic Conference football champion Spring Valley has drawn a date with Woodrow Wilson during the Mountain State Athletic Conference Grid-o-rama, set for Aug. 18-19 at University of Charleston Stadium.

The set of six preseason football scrimmages among the 12 league teams begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18 with South Charleston working out against Parkersburg, followed by St. Albans and Huntington at approximately 8:10.

On Saturday, Aug. 19, Spring Valley and Woodrow Wilson will lock up at 10 a.m., followed by Hurricane and Riverside at 11:45, George Washington and Cabell Midland at 1:30 p.m. and Ripley and Capital at 3:15.

PDL SOCCER: The West Virginia Chaos got a 51st-minute goal from Nathan Watt to beat the visiting Cincinnati Dutch Lions 1-0 on Thursday at Schoenbaum Soccer Stadium in Charleston.

The win vaults the Chaos into third place in the Premier Development League’s Great Lakes Division, one point ahead of Cincinnati. West Virginia concludes its regular season on Saturday at Dayton.

WVU FOOTBALL: The Mountaineer Ticket Office announced that West Virginia University’s ticket allotment for the Virginia Tech football game on Sunday, Sept. 3, at FedExField in Landover, Maryland, is sold out.

n The Mountaineers had two standouts named to the National Award Watch lists in senior offensive lineman Kyle Bosch to the Outland Trophy and redshirt junior safety Dravon Askew-Henry to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy.

WOMEN’S GOLF: Mary Payne won her sixth Kanawha Valley Women’s Golf Championship, and fifth in a row, at the Edgewood Country Club Thursday. Payne had a gross score of 165, defeating Kathy Chesley by one stroke.

RIVERSIDE AMATEUR: The Riverside Amateur golf tournament is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Riverside Golf Club in Mason. Golfers will be flighted according to their 2017 GHIN Handicap. The Riverside Amateur is a West Virginia Golf Association Player of the Year points tournament.

BOWL-A-THON: The Special Olympics Kanawha County is holding its 12th annual Bowl-A-Thon starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Towne ‘N Country Lanes.
