Clyde Brewer, the former longtime boys basketball coach at Parkersburg High School, died on Wednesday. He was 78.
Brewer coached the Big Reds from 1982-2005, making the state tournament four times — 1987, 1991, 1995 and 2001. His 1991 team won its first-round game against North Marion but lost to eventual champion Logan 86-70 in the semifinal round.
In 2005, his final season, Parkersburg won 17 straight games — the longest streak of his career — and finished with a 20-3 record.
Other highlights included a 2001 Mountain State Athletic Conference championship and an MSAC Blue Division co-championship with Logan in 1997.
