KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — The West Virginia Power used a three-run third inning to help put away the Kannapolis Intimidators 6-1 Saturday night at Intimidators Stadium.
Hunter Owen gave the Power an early lead in the top of the first, hitting a sacrifice fly to center to score Adrian Valero, and smacked a two-run single in the third to help West Virginia take a 4-0 edge through three innings.
The Power plated a run each in the seventh and ninth innings to seal the win.
West Virginia starter Oddy Nunez struck out five and allowed just one hit in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision, and Matt Eckelman allowed one run on two hits and struck out two in 2 1/3 innings of relief to pick up his third win of the season.
Blake Hickman took the loss for Kannapolis, giving up four runs on six hits and striking out one in six innings.
Ty Moore finished 3 for 5 with an RBI and Alexis Bastardo added two hits for West Virginia (30-35).
The Power wraps up its series with the Intimidators and the first half of the season Sunday at Kannapolis at 2:05 p.m. Eduardo Vera will start for West Virginia.
