In Short: Theater, Peckfest, 4th of July

It’s the final weekend for Contemporary Youth Arts Company’s production of “Jack the Ripper,” Charleston Light Opera Guild’s “Bright Star” and the Alban Arts Center’s production of “Huck Finn.”

Tickets for the shows range from $15 to $20, based on the show. For more information, including individual showtimes, visit the for “Huck Finn,” for “Jack the Ripper” and charlestonligh for “Bright Star.”


Next weekend is the 5th annual Peckfest at the Kanawha River Campground in Point Pleasant. This year’s festival includes performances by Hank Williams, Jr., Poison’s Brett Michaels and Buckcherry.

Tickets for Peckfest start at $55 for single day admission or $90 for the weekend. For more information, visit

4th of July in Charleston

The city of Charleston will host a July 4th Celebration on Kanawha Boulevard and Haddad Riverfront Park beginning at 6:30 p.m. July 4.

The celebration includes music from the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s Brass and Percussion ensemble with fireworks to follow at approximately 9:30 p.m.

The event is free to the public.
