One of Charleston’s most popular and most enduring party bands, Stratus, headlines Live on the Levee Friday night and kicks off a busy season of shows for the 45-year-old band.

Bandleader and manager JoLoyd said, “Well, the name goes back 45 years, but three of us have been in the band for 43 years.”

He added that it was great to be back to play the levee again.

“We were the first act to play here,” he said. “It was a different stage back then.”

JoLoyd said the group has remained strong, in part, by occasionally expanding and bringing in new members.

Most recently, the nine-piece R&B, soul and jazz band added vocalists Shayla Leftridge and Todd White.

Along with Live on the Levee Friday night, Stratus is scheduled to perform at the Mayor’s Concert June 27 during FestivALL with The Suffers and The War and Treaty, at Multifest on August 3 and the Dunbar Festival September 21.
