The Suddenlink retail store at the Charleston Town Center mall will close March 24, according to the Kanawha County Commission.

Signage announcing the closure has been posted at the store’s location. All store employees will be transferred to either Suddenlink’s Kanawha City or Scott Depot locations, according to the county commission.

The Kanawha Commission has criticized Suddenlink’s service in the Kanawha Valley at multiple meetings this year. At the Jan. 30 meeting, the commission voted to create a new process for handling customer complaints about Suddenlink’s cable service.

The county can track customer complaints and fine the company up to $1,000 for multiple instances of the same issue. This is only allowed for cable service problems. The law prevents this practice for internet access issues.

The company will be out of the storefront by April 1, according to the county.

Commission President Kent Carper said this is also more bad news for the Town Center mall, which was sold to U.S. Bank National Association for $35 million in January 2019.

“Unfortunately this is another disappointment for the Town Center mall. Any loss of business or occupancy is not a welcome occurrence. We appreciate Suddenlink giving us notification of this, as they are not required to do so currently by state or federal law,” Carper said.
