Cars stream past the various holiday displays at the Festival of Lights at Coonskin Park in Charleston, W.Va., Dec. 18, 2017. Coonskin Park will hold its Light the Way 5k on Nov. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m.

There are many things to do in this area for the month of November. Below are some events going on this month:

Mac & Cheese Cook-off

Are you a mac and cheese lover? If so, this might be one of the best events to attend. Charleston’s Mac & Cheese Cook-Off will be held at the Capitol Market (800 Smith Street, Charleston) on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local restaurants, businesses and individuals will compete to win the title “West Virginia’s Best Mac & Cheese.” Tasting wristbands are $10 for adults and $5 for children. All proceeds go to the Childhood Language Center which provides free speech and language therapy to children in West Virginia.

Capital City Art & Craft Show

Do you have a passion for art? The 51st annual Capital City Art & Crafts Show will be held Nov. 16 through 18 at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. It is open 4 to 10 p.m. on Nov. 16, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 17 and noon to 6 p.m. on Nov. 18. Here you can visit a variety of arts and crafts and food vendors, purchase art, and even create your own! If you plan to attend, you are encouraged to bring non perishable food that will be donated to local food pantries.

Light the Way 5k

Christmastime is near! Why not get the celebration started a little early with a 5k through a park with Christmas lights? On Friday, Nov. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Coonskin Park (2000 Coonskin Dr., Charleston), get the first look at the lights at Coonskin before they open to the public during the Light the Way 5k. There will be hot chocolate, caroling and contests, too. Contests include: Ugliest Sweater, Best Costume and Most Creative Team Theme. Tickets are $30. Registration/check-in begins at 4:30 p.m., event begins at 6 p.m. All proceeds from the event will be used for therapy services for children with special needs who have insufficient insurance and/or income.

Glow Big GLOW Home

Sky Zone will be holding its GLOW Big or GLOW Home event again this month on Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 at 9 p.m. With lasers, music and black lights, Sky Zone is transformed into a jumping dance club. Sky socks are required. Prices are varied depending on how long you want to jump: $17 for 60 minutes or $25 for 120 minutes, plus $5 purchase of reusable glow shirt per person. The Sky Zone location is 500 Southridge Boulevard, Charleston.
