City street is a catwalk on ‘Fashion’s Night Out’

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Hale Street will become a little more chic Thursday evening as eight downtown retailers share their seasonal ensembles during “Fashion’s Night Out: Fall Preview.”

The show, a collaborative effort between business owners and the Charleston Area Alliance, will take place at 8 p.m., immediately following this month’s ArtWalk.

Lesli Forbes, downtown Charleston coordinator for the Charleston Area Alliance, said “Fashion’s Night Out” is a fun way to increase awareness of shops in the area while showcasing what to expect in fashion this fall.

“This is a way to boost business downtown,” Forbes said. “People may not have visited some of these retailers before.”

Heidi Dylan Boutique, Ivor’s Trunk, House of Luxe, Morgan Rhea, The Initialed Life, The Boutique by B.Belle Events, Tony The Tailor and Virginia Lee all will present about six looks each, and styles will vary from casual and career to formal.

Hale Street will be shut down between Virginia and Quarrier streets so models can use the street as a catwalk.

It’ll be sort of paradesque,” Forbes said. “People will be able to watch from both sides of the street.”

WCHS-TV news anchor Kallie Cart will host the event, and Coach Kidd, from WVSR-FM 102.7’s “Morning Show,” will provide the music.

Forbes said “Fashion’s Night Out” is part of the Charleston Area Alliance’s “four days of fun,” which also includes a Brown Bag Concert featuring Shayla Leftridge on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in Davis Park, ArtWalk from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Live on the Levee on Friday featuring The Esquires and The CharlieWest All-Stars and the second Downtown Streetfest on Saturday from 3:30 to 8 p.m. on Capitol Street featuring the Voodoo Katz.
