Charleston’s 31st Multifest kicked on August 5 at Appalachian Power Park with an African American Heritage Night Celebration, the first of four days of festivities. The event paid tribute to the Negro Leagues with the Josh Gibson Foundation Exhibit honoring a powerful slugger who starred for the Pittsburgh Crawfords and Homestead Grays in the Negro Leagues for 14 seasons, beginning in 1933 and was the second Negro League player inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Live on the Levy, Charleston’s free, Friday night concert series, opened with the R&B music of ThreeChill followed by pop rock band and headliner Shine. August 13 was also Veteran’s Night at Live on the Levy.
