PHOTOS: Visiting the ol' swimming hole

As many West Virginians make their annual summer pilgrimage to the shores of Myrtle Beach, the Outer Banks or other locales, others opt to remain within the Mountain State and keep cool in its many swimming holes. If one enjoys a slower pace and gentle water, then the Woodbine Picnic Area, along the Cranberry River, would make an excellent spot. If you like to mix your swimming with river boarding and kayaking, then Canyon Doors, with its red rock walls along the Lower Gauley River, might do the trick. Either way, West Virginia’s swimming holes are part of what makes it both wild and wonderful.
