WV Style Team: Fall face trends

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The runways have spoken! From hints of metallic to glowing, radiant skin, the face of fall is no longer matte and muddy.

If you want to switch up your summer face to match the crisp, cool autumn weather, check out these trends straight out of New York Fashion Week.

Metallic shine

We’ve been talking metallics all year, but this shiny trend isn’t going anywhere! Just keep in mind that metallic does not equal glitter. The glittery shadows of the ’90s haven’t quite been recycled just yet. Focus your metallic accents on shimmery shadows in gold, bronze, rose and titanium. If you gotta go for glitter, reserve it for your liner as a hint of sparkle directly over your lash line. Check out the Stila Magnificent Metal Foil Finish Eye Liner.

Long lashes

Bambi who? To achieve the doelike eyes featured on the runway, false eyelashes are a must. This look definitely isn’t work-appropriate, but it’s a perfect accent for a dinner date, girls night out or festive party. Add just a few individual strands to the outside corners for a conservative length, or go the whole nine yards with a full set of lush lashes.

The upcoming holiday season is a perfect reason to put your best lash forward! For fabulous, fluffy lashes, try Katy Perry Oh Honey! eyelashes by Eylure.

Go for the glow

No longer reserved for summer, radiant skin is a must for the cooler months. Not only does it accent the already vibrant lashes and liner that fall embraces, it also highlights cheekbones and adds a healthy glow to normally ruddy, matte winter complexions.

If you’re having trouble achieving the dewy glow naturally, exfoliate dry skin, amp up the moisturizer, utilize BB or CC cream rather than thick foundation and look for an illuminator like Benefit That Gal Illuminating Face Primer.

Line up

Cat eyes, thick lines, smudged just right or double layer lines — eyeliner is a key component to your fall face. Forget the impossible-to-achieve perfect winged cat eye; liner is going above and beyond this season.

This heavy-handed liner look should be executed in a couture, not creepy, way. Focus your liner on both upper and lower lash lines for a pretty smoky trend. Try out the Ulta Eye Crayon in a variety of colors — this pencil comes equipped with a liner and smudge sponge tip.

Color vibe

Add a simple splash of color to your eye routine to achieve this trend. Blue seems to be the hue of the moment, and any shade will do. No need to travel back to the ’80s with an all-over wash. Simply refine your style with liner, lid coverage or smudged along the bottom of the lash line to make you perfectly on trend.

For an all-in-one product to achieve any of these techniques, grab a Glam Shadow Stick, from Nyx Cosmetics, a steal at less than $5!

Try your hand at one or all of these trends for a fall face not soon to be forgotten. As the leaves change and weather cools, it’s the perfect opportunity to put your best face forward. All products featured are available locally at Ulta.
