Vintage West Virginia: Brown’s Theater

In the 1950s, eastern Kanawha County moviegoers could catch a show at Brown’s Theatre on MacCorkle Avenue, near Cabin Creek. D.E. Brown bought the 300-seat Wilson Theatre from Robert Wilson in 1933 and renamed it. The theater in the week the photo was taken was showing “City Beneath the Sea” and “Saddle Legion.” A fire in 1941 destroyed the theater’s entire block. The theater was rebuilt and operated into the 1970s.
