Vintage West Virginia: Charleston’s new firetrucks

Two new fire engines will be tested by the Charleston Fire Department before the city decides to accept the new equipment at a cost of $31,600, Fire Chief O.E. Boggess said. Built by the Ward La France Truck Corp., of Elmira, New York, the engines have a pumping capacity of 1,000 gallons a minute and are “something new in the field.” Similar trucks purchased in the past have cost about $22,000 each.
