Contentment Historical Complex open
The Contentment Historical Complex, located on U.S. Route 60, in Ansted, is open. Hours are noon to 4 p.m. on Fridays through August. The Complex is located a half-mile east of Hawks Nest Lodge and is on the Civil War Trail. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for ages under 12.
Speakeasy Singles dance
The SpeakEasy Singles will have a luau dance from 8-11 p.m. Saturday in the Columbia Gas Ballroom, off MacCorkle Avenue. Admission is $10 per person, with food included and nonalcoholic drinks available for $1. Free Mambo and Mambo line dancing will be offered from 7-8 p.m. and a limbo contest will be held.

Sky Kershner, guest therapist on TLC’s “Hoarding: Buried Alive,” will share tips on how to avoid becoming too attached to stuff at a workshop titled, “Hoarding: The Stuff of Our Lives & Using MI to Help,” now held from 9 a.m. to noon on June 27 at Unity of Kanawha Valley. CEU credits are available for SW, LPC, RN and addiction professionals. Cost is $40 to attend. To register, call 304-346-9689.
West Virginia Day celebrations
The West Virginia Humanities Council will celebrate West Virginia Day from 2-4 p.m. on Thursday at the historic MacFarland-Hubbard House, 1310 Kanawha Blvd. E. The 45th anniversary of the West Virginia Humanities Council, which was founded on June 25, 1974, will also be celebrated. Music will be provided by Kim Johnson and Bobby Taylor. James Froemel will portray our newest History Alive! Character, Charles Schulz, at 3 p.m. in the parlor. Light refreshments will be provided. This event is free.
