Charges have not been filed after a shot was fired at the Clay Center Saturday during the annual Carnaval event, police say.
Charleston Police Department responded to the incident at 11:30 p.m., according to a news release. Witnesses told police a male took off his jacket as he walked toward the stage, dropped it, and a firearm discharged.
The male picked up the gun, wrapped it back up in his jacket, and fled the scene on foot. Witnesses reported to police the male fled into the Charleston Area Medical Center General parking garage.
The male arrived at the Clay Center with a white female with blonde hair, police say. The female left the building shortly after the male fled the scene after the firearm went off.
Police said Sunday afternoon they have identified the couple and turned the case over to the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office for review. No charges has been filed as of yet, they said.
