Police say Charleston woman bit off another woman's finger

A Charleston woman has been charged after police say she bit off the tip of another woman’s finger.

Latasha Barrett, 31, of Charleston has been charged with malicious wounding after a verbal argument she had with an acquaintance escalated into a physical altercation, Charleston police said in a news release.

Barrett was arrested around midnight Wednesday in the 2000 block of Hutchison Street, the release said.

Barrett allegedly bit off the tip of the female victim’s left index finger, which required her to be transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

The victim’s condition was unknown Wednesday evening, police said.

Malicious wounding is a felony. If convicted, Barrett faces two to 10 years in a state jail.

Barrett’s bail was set at $20,000 property or 10 percent cash. She is being held at South Central Regional Jail.
