Sentencing delayed in case of Upshur man who killed father

An Upshur County circuit judge delayed the sentencing hearing for a man who pleaded guilty to charges related to his father’s death earlier this year.

Timothy McWilliams, 66, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter on April 11 in connection with the death of his father, Leo McWilliams, who died March 8, 2018.

Judge Kurt Hall delayed the hearing as he awaits the report from a 60-day diagnostic evaluation to determine if McWilliams is competent and of sound mind to engage in the plea deal.

McWilliams is incarcerated at Northern Regional Jail.
