The Charleston Area Alliance presented 14 awards during its annual “We Love Our Community Awards” event Thursday at the Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
People and organizations were presented with pieces of art from Jack O’Hearn, a local artist. The awards are sponsored by Spilman Thomas & Battle and honor people, organizations and programs that “make the Charleston community stronger and brighter,” according to a news release from the Alliance.
The awardees were:
Outstanding Preservation Award: SPW Global.
Kanawha Heritage Award: Yarid’s Shoes.
Best Development Award: Charleston Coliseum & Convention Center.
Jeff Miller Sustainable Development Award: JQ Dickinson Saltworks.
Community Celebration Award: Restaurant Week.
Arts to the Max Award (Organization): FOOTMAD.
Arts to the Max Award (Individual): Tom Kirk.
James R. Thomas Outstanding Volunteer Award: Harry Mills.
Youth Volunteer Award: Kalan King.
Do the Charleston Award: Mary Jean Davis.
Servant Leader Award: Rick Burka.
Charleston Herald Award: Charleston Police Department and Filmanatix.
