PHOTOS: Parade celebrates veterans in Charleston

Residents turned out Monday to pay tribute to area veterans during Charleston’s Veterans Day Parade. The parade kicked off on Capitol Street and traveled through downtown to Haddad Riverfront Park. The annual celebration began in April 1942, when World War I veterans, members of the American Legion’s John Brawley Post 20, marched up Capitol Street in support of those going off to fight in World War II. In addition to veterans, this year’s parade featured more than 70 groups and included military vehicles and personnel, Junior ROTC units, marching bands and first responders.
