A volunteer fire chief from Nicholas County died Wednesday after police said he appeared to have a medical emergency while driving.
In a news release, Nicholas County Sheriff William F. Nunley said deputies responded to a single vehicle accident in Craigsville in the early morning hours Wednesday.
Upon arrival deputies said the driver, identified as Timmy Blake, of Craigsville, appeared to have experienced a medical emergency while driving. His vehicle ran off the road and into a ditch, the release said.
Blake was currently serving as the chief of the Craigsville Volunteer Fire Department Unit #1301. He had been a member of the department since 1987 and had served as chief for 23 years, the release said.
