I was cruising down Midway Road in Lincoln County a few weeks ago when I happened past Guy’s Cut-N-Shave. I was immediately struck by how small the place was. I wondered how someone could possibly fit a business in a building that looked no larger than two pickup trucks parked side by side.
But Linda Javins, a native of St. Albans, has done just that, after buying the building in 2012 from the owner of Maybelle’s (which was a barbershop for 28 years). Javins and her partner, Donnie Gillenwater, whose father the barbershop is named after, moved the building from its original location along W.Va. 3 to where it currently stands. They tore down a house on the land, laid the groundwork for adequate parking and renovated the building itself. Javins has been operating her barbershop there ever since.
Guy’s offers haircuts for men, women and kids, as well as hair coloring, neck shaves and head shaves. It’s at 3605 Midway Road in Yawkey, and is open Tuesday and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
