G. Robert “Rob” Cunningham has been hired as West Virginia’s Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, Secretary Jeff Sandy announced Monday.
Cunningham served as a senior special agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for the U.S. Department of Justice prior to joining the state Department of Homeland Security, according to a news release from the Governor’s Office.
Cunningham has been a member of the Putnam County Board of Education since 2013 and president of the board since 2018.
Cunningham worked as a West Virginia State Trooper from 1992 to 2001.
The West Virginia Department of Homeland Security includes the State Police and the Fusion Center, as well as the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the state Parole Board, and the Capitol Police.
