Readers' Vent: April 25, 2019

While I understand the need to extend the Yeager Airport runway into Coonskin Park, I hope the Alice Knight Memorial Trail can be spared. It includes some wonderful rock formations and waterfalls. It’s one of my favorite places to hike.

I mailed my West Virginia tax return over 11 weeks ago — still no refund. Gov. Justice must be managing the state same as his businesses. Doesn’t pay his bills until the vendor accepts 80 cents or less on the dollar. Maybe he hopes the taxpayers will accept the same reduction on their tax refunds.

All my adult life, I have planned health coverage for my family. It required allocation of resources (money). We exercised regularly, and avoided risky behaviors. Things are going OK. I recommend the same for you universal health care devotees. Stop looking to tax your obligation off somebody else, and I will stop looking at Fox News.

You know once upon a time the Democrats really were for the working people. Now they are for immoral causes, people who refuse to work and those that choose to live lifestyles on the fringes of society. That’s why I dropped them after 25 years.

Now that the primary election in South Charleston is over, the citizens of South Charleston should demand a debate between the two candidates for mayor. The last time these two gentlemen ran against each other, Frank Mullens refused to debate Richie Robb. There are a lot of issues facing the next mayor and the people of South Charleston need to understand the different visions each man has for the direction of the city. Let’s have a debate and see which vision is best for South Charleston.

Many Americans seem to either forget or are just ignorant to the fact that our country is, by design, a Democratic Republic and not a pure Democracy. I think they need a civics class to learn about their country and what it really is.

The “Back-to-Landers” article proves the failure of liberalism.
