Cabell Midland’s Ivan Vaughn (1) makes a move on a Huntington defender in the Knights’ win over the Highlanders.

Ivan Vaughn rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries as Class AAA No. 12 Cabell Midland upset fifth-ranked Huntington 21-7 Friday night in Ona.

After Huntington took an early 7-0 lead on a 3-yard run by Diallo Mitchell, the Knights’ ground game got to work, ripping off 21 unanswered points in the first half to put the Highlanders away.

Quarterback Jayce Gould scored on a 6-yard run and Vaughn found the end zone on runs of 29 and 68 yards to cap the scoring. Cabell Midland (5-4) racked up 408 total yards, 314 coming on the ground, while holding Huntington to just 189.

Mitchell finished with 114 yards and a TD on 22 carries, and quarterback Ta’ Blackwell completed 6 of 16 passes for 77 yards to lead the Highlanders (6-2).

Ripley 65, St. Albans 24: RJ Evans rushed for 280 yards and five TDs as Ripley rolled host St. Albans. Evans carried just 16 times, scoring on runs of 10, 51, 1, 34, 10 yards for the No. 6 Vikings (7-1), who racked up 508 total yards.

Also for Ripley, Jeremy Harper rushed for 102 yards and a TD on nine carries and Evan King rushed for 41 yards and a score on two carries and returned an interception for another TD.

Caden McCoy accounted for 182 yards and two TDs to lead SA, completing 12 of 18 passes for 90 yards and a score, while gaining another 92 yards and a score on 15 rushes. Also for SA (1-7), Hunter Payne picked up 45 yards and a TD on 17 rushes, and Bonez Johnson caught two passes for 35 yards and a score.

Mingo Central 50, Herbert Hoover 21: Daylin Goad threw for 488 yards and eight touchdowns as Mingo Central blew past host Herbert Hoover.

Goad completed 22 of 30 passes, including scoring strikes of 72 and 55 yards against one pick, to help the Miners (6-2) amass 605 total yards.

Drew Hatfield caught nine passes for 185 yards and three TDs, Devin Hatfield hauled in seven catches for 152 yards and two scores, and Isaac Moore caught three balls for 101 yards and two TDs. Also for Mingo, Dougie Dillon rushed for 101 yards on just seven rushes.

Ben Kee led the Huskies (1-7), rushing for 165 yards and three scores on 32 carries, and Rhett White completed 7 of 14 passes for 72 yards against one interception.

Point Pleasant 49, Man 0: Cason Payne piled up 220 total yards and five touchdowns as Point Pleasant pounded host Man to remain unbeaten.

Payne completed 18 of 22 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns against one pick, while rushing for another 46 yards and three scores on nine carries.

Also for AA No. 6 Point (7-0), Brady Adkins ran for 113 yards and a score on 11 totes, while catching five passes for 63 yards and another TD, and Josh Wamsley hauled in four passes for 52 yards and a score. Man, which drops to 4-4, was shut out by Point for a third straight year.
